is a neuroscientist and faculty member at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy,
College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Rwanda. He holds a Ph.D.
in Physiology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is an alumnus of the
African Research Excellence Fund (AREF) and a Fellow of the International
FAIMER Institute (IFI), Philadelphia, USA—demonstrating his strong commitment
to advancing medical education and leadership.
His interest spans
cognitive neuroscience, reproductive health, evidence-based medicine, and
medical education. His current research focuses on understanding how
physiological processes—particularly stress and intermittent fasting affect
cognitive function and neural health. His recent work integrates cognitive
neuroscience with educational innovation, applying peer-supported study groups
and SMART cognitive techniques to enhance learning, motivation, and
psychological well-being in academic settings. He has published over 50
peer-reviewed articles and serves as a reviewer and editor for several top
scientific journals.
In addition to his
research and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Ikwuka is deeply committed to
curriculum development and capacity building in medical education. He is the Secretary-General
of the African College of Neuropsychopharmacology (AfCNP) and he is also
actively involved in other professional organizations, where he works to foster
collaboration, improve communication, and support organizational development.
His passion lies in integrating cultural diversity into medical physiology
curricula and in strengthening primary healthcare leadership across the African
continent.
